Wearable Technology Electroluminescent Light-up Fashion T-shirt by Collette Costello – Fashion Futures & Wearable Technology Series

Fashion wearable technology, light-up dresses, t-shirts can end up with wires everywhere and look really messy.  I have come up with this light-up t-shirt design using special conductive ink, the ink acts like electric wires that can be screen printed straight onto the t-shirt.  The electric circuit needed for the lights and battery becomes part of the design, so no need for wires and here is how it is done.

The video below shows how conductive inks can be screen printed onto fabric to make an electric circuit, with no wires or thread needed.  Once ink has dried a coin battery holder and LED lights can be sewn onto the print with conductive threads to create a simple finished t-shirt that light-ups.

What I love about the screen printed conductive inks on the t-shirt, is that the technology becomes part of the design, instead of being hidden it is embraced and put on display.  To learn more about wearable technology check out the rest of my blog section “Fashion Futures & Wearable Technology”.
